The Detwiler Fire at Meherana

Fire swept through Meherana on July 18th, 2017. The Detwiler Fire, which began on July 16th, eventually burned 81,826 acres including 63 homes, one church, 67 minor structures, along with damage to 13 more homes and eight minor structures.
The damage at Meherana was kept to a minimum by an earnest
 and valiant team of firefighters.

The fire charred all of the grassy areas at Meherana but made capricious choices with trees and brush. The most damage was done to the Sahavas area including the bookstore, the pandal stage (with its storage room of tables, chairs, tents), and K-storage and K-shed which held a variety of equipment and pantry supplies. There was also some damage on the property to electrical, telephone, and water systems.

Meherana's three main buildings:   Baba's Cabin, the Meadow Cottage, and the Caretaker's House
were guarded and saved by the firefighting team.

Some other structures that  survived the fire

Debris removal has been done and now we move on  to rebuilding Meherana.

A multi-purpose building has been built in the Sahavas area to replace the buildings lost in the fire.
