MASTERY IN SERVITUDE

"The three expositions in this book, recently composed by Bhau Kalchuri, are both, in their respective ways, explorations into the theme designated in the book's title, Mastery in Servitude. The motto "Mastery in Servitude," of course, was given by Avatar Meher Baba Himself, and by His directive it was inscribed on His tomb-shrine at Meherabad when it was constructed in 1938. At the time Meher Baba did not explain what "Mastery in Servitude" meant, nor did His disciples and followers ask, since their endeavor was to put His wish into practice rather than theorize about it. Nonetheless, as the years have slipped by, and particularly since Meher Baba dropped His physical form in 1969, "Mastery in Servitude" has, among the various messages and signposts that the God-Man left as part of His legacy to the world, emerged as an expression that seems to have some special bearing on the future of humanity. Whatever may be the new world order that eventually arises our of the chaos and travail of the present, Mastery in Servitude, we can presume, will be at the heart of it."
